I wish that I had stuck around a little longer last night, to participate in the tattoo discussion. I have two small tattoos myself...but you'd have to know me VERY well to have the opportunity to see them. ;)
I know the conversation has moved on a bit from the photo of the girl with the RP tattoo...but I just wanted to make one comment on that subject.
I firmly believe that this girl had every right to get whatever tattoo she fancies, as any of us do—and that it is also natural for people to want to comment about her decision, since it does, whether she likes it or not, reflect upon her own taste and judgment (and the fact that she got the tattoo on such a visible area of her body, and then posted photos of it herself online, clearly indicates that she is seeking publicity.) But again—no harm done to her, really, and certainly no harm done to me. :)
However, I can see how this might contribute to RP's already escalating anxiety. Imagine how one of us would feel if someone tattooed our name on his/her body! Such a drastic and relatively permanent act would be extremely symbolic, and our relationship to that person would immediately take on a greater significance—even if our feelings did not equal the feelings of the person now bearing the tattoo. It would be a terrible burden, to feel emotionally obligated to someone in that way.
It's sad to think that RP may be experiencing increased pressure, because strangers are willing to go to such extremes to feel connected to him.

Speaking of tattoos...i have three and regret them ALL, i was young and dumb, plus i was dating a tattoo artist at the time, i guess i could have gotten more and really regretted it.

Mrs. R...very nice commentary about the conundrum of fame. Rob can never begin to have or return the feelings of all the (to him) nameless and faceless people who profess love and adoration for him.
My favorite Rob interview moments are the ones in which he expresses deep consternation at the fact that he can spend so little time and give so little back to the fans who stand in line all day just to get a glimpse of him or meet him for 5 seconds. If he had his way, he would have conversations with every one of them and find out who they are and why they like him. If he met this girl with his signature tattoo on her wrist, you can bet he'd try to find out why she did it, and want to understand it. It's one of my favorite traits about him, probably because I'm the opposite. I'd be much more, "Get away from me, crazy girl, and get yourself some therapy."
TS, just this past Thurs. night I went and got the phrase "more than my own life" tatooed in French on the top/side of my foot.. It's for my little ones, but I like that it will remind me of BD too :)

my tattoos are all private, sometimes i forget i even have them until like i said when you go to doctors and they comment, "oh how pretty" and i am like what?!?!
leann, that is so true, I've heard him say that in interviews about regretting not being able to talk to people more. And he is so genuine, I love that about him most. He said when everyone is just screaming, he feels like he isn't giving anything in return, unlike a musician who plays a song and people scream for him.

Diane, I did almost get sucked into the HA vaccuum there...it's worth it though! The whole movie is on Youtube, and you should definitely watch it. It gave me a whole new appreciation of Rob when I first saw it awhile back.

St. Louis (KSDK) — A St. Louis area business owner will be rewarded for finding two scripts for movie sequels in the trash.
Casey Ray, the owner of Salon K, in the Loop area, found the movie scripts for New Moon and Memoirs, the sequels to the vampire film, Twilight.
The scripts had been left and ended up in a dumpster outside the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis by actress Anna Kendrick, who had been in St. Louis to shoot the George Clooney film, Up in the Air, according to Ray’s attorney, Albert S. Watkins.
Ray contacted her attorney and together they reached a deal with Summit Entertainment, who is producing the films.
Watkins’ office said Ray agreed to return the scripts to Summit Entertainment and will be invited to the premieres for both films and the after-parties. After the films are released, she will receive the scripts that she found, certified by the studio for authenticity and signed by the writer and lead actor and actress.

Wouldn't it be absolutely exhausting—burdening, again—to try to absorb so much from so many people, and then feel the obligation to share a part of yourself, with each of them, in return? (Hence his "autopilot" expression when confronted by the airport mob?)
I know that, in person, I am so terribly introverted (despite my ramblings here ;)), that is is nearly impossible for me to meet someone new and feel safe—and potentially "understood"— enough to move beyond pleasantries (which I also hate exchanging ;)). For Rob, I suppose, it would be a million times more difficult to achieve the instant and widespread intimacy that you described. :)

A few months ago, a classmate of mine from high school passed away suddenly. Several guys I went to school with got tattoos to remember him by. I think it helps in the healing process also. When you feel so helpless, it is at least SOMETHING you can do.
