Laugh Out Loud post of the day :))
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Ask the Monkey! (Please include your city and state and/or country)
Q: It seems like Robert Pattinson is attempting to sabotage his own success by talking about his poor hygiene habits etc. Perhaps he is just being very honest, which is refreshing. However, I am curious about his sexual orientation. I have seen him with his friend Tom Sturridge, and they seem very close, but I get the feeling that he is being told by his agent and the Twilight machine not to "come out" since his fans are predominantly young females. Haven't we gotten past all that by now? – Eileen, Gainesville, Virginia
A: First, Pattinson is reportedly straight, having been romantically linked with Nina Schubert, Katie Leung, and Camilla Belle; Sturridge is merely his best friend. And actually, I believe him. Why? Because – as you say – he is so damn honest about everything else in his life.(Gozde: And LOOK at them! No gay man would be caught wearing those!:))

Still, the Flying Monkey also agrees with you about how he does come across as sort of resenting his sudden success, or at least the media frenzy surrounding it.
But honestly, who wouldn’t? I think it’s impossible to appreciate just how insane and invasive the scrutiny is at that level of fame. Pattinson plays the guitar (and sings two songs in Twilight, one of which he co-wrote), but he told the New York Times about how hurt he was by the negative reaction to an online clip of him doing an impromptu set at Los Angeles’ Whisky a Go Go.
“I was so not ready for the scrutiny,” he said. “I haven’t touched a guitar since. When you know you have to be good every time, you never want to do it again.”
Gozde: Could they find a worse picture of Rob? Well there is always this one :)
But the real issue here is Pattinson’s reps, who seem to have done a really crappy job of prepping him for stardom. It’s fine to feel overwhelmed and annoyed and even bitch about it to your friends, but it’s rarely a good idea to do this in public, as it often comes across as ungrateful. After all, celebrities always have the option of leaving their chosen field at any time – and all the “problems” of fame will soon fade away. But to date, despite decades of bitching celebrities, Greta Garbo is just about the only one to have actually done this.

Well a few things to say...
re: his sexuality - who can really be 100% sure since we don't know him, but I am a betting gal, and I say STRAIGHT, for all the reasons that they said (he's honest). Besides, it is sort of narrow minded to look at a close male friendship and immediately box it into the category of "gay" or whatever. They love each other, so what?
re: PR stuff...well ironically I became a fan of Robert only when I listened to him in interviews, giving candid, intelligent, charming, unpretentious answers to mostly innane, repetitive questions. And I don't think I am alone in this either. Prior to that, he was just another pretty face to me in Hollywood. So maybe it is good that he didn't follow his media training....just a theory.
Although I'm completely Robsessed like the rest of you and it doesn't matter to me one bit if he's gay or not... I would not be surprised if he is gay...he has some pretty effeminate characteristics (the way he runs and some of his hand mannerisms, the way he laughs on the DVD commentary), no interest in sports, he didn't seem to have any qualms about gay scenes in Little Ashes (I know, that doesn't make him gay) and he's stated he would rather be friends with girls than guys. Just my opinion - like I said, I don't care either way - I still love Rob!
I'm with Gozde on this one. Not a gay man on the planet would be caught wearing some of the clothes Robert wears.
Who cares either way. He is definitely HAWT!
As for scrutiny, press, etc - he seems so sincere to me that even when he's 'bitching', he doesn't come across as high and mighty, like certain co-stars of his do. And I love it when he makes comments about nutjob fans & such! I'm glad he didn't follow his media training, too!
Leanne just said all the things I thought.
this is all just plain stupid.
and i totally agree with all leanne said.
Wow, if that's the best "angle" they can come up with: that Rob says he was hurt about a negative comment while playing at the Whiskey A Go Go, that's QUITE a stretch!
Rob is certainly one of the most gracious actors I've even seen. And I have to say this as a former TV-Film critic (for five years when I was in my twenties) who interviewed about 450 actors,
(writers & producers).
Leanne~I agree about falling for Rob after watching his interviews. He is totally unique. Please don't throw tomatoes, but I find his "Twilight" look with the makeup and "up" hairdo unappealing. I think he is so much more attractive as himself.
Anon: most guys have a closer relationship with their wives/girlfriends, hence being friends with women.
Also, everything you described as feminine characteristics are just CREATIVE traits, nothing to do with gender. Rob is not gay, just a soft, expressive guy, which is my preference. ~Chicago girl now in LA.
Actually - I have a couple of gay friends, and they do actually dress down and a bit grungy. I think the "gays dress well" is just a stereotype. Not all men are 'queer eye for the straight guy'. With that said, I don't think rob is gay. And if he were, I'd still be drooling over his pictures.
GOZ,
i am with you on this one , ilove orlando bl and hayden christ too( not like rob) and it was the same thing for them every move and fashion statement meant gay and of course it didnot but i love him and them no matter what , as long as their still nice ,funny and talented oh yeah CUTE,CUTE.marj
LOL - If you want to hear Rob sound gay, listen to the DVD commentary... when he has to "look scary" for the Port A frat boys. He is so hilarious.
Rob dating his best friend? That's so stupid!!! I don't know if he's gay or not, but I'd bet he's NOT - Either way, I don't care. His laugh on the commentary is kinda goofy/dorky, but I love it - it makes me laugh with him. The commentary is the most REAL I've heard him. Now, I'm not merely obsessed, but extremely obsessed. I need to move on with my life!! :)
Chicago girl in LA - I totally agree with you, so no tomato throwing here! Especially when you see the photos on the blog with him on set in his white makeup and lipstick, not really sexy.....I will take his oily hair and 5 oclock shadow and over quirkiness over Edward any day of the week!!! ;)
Well, I belong to those that really loved Rob in Goblet of Fire, wondering how the hell nobody had discovered such a pretty face before! I was devastated when I saw him dying cos I am not an HP fan and the only thing that would actually make me stick there was him...
His Edward look just did it for me! I couldn't believe how much he'd grown over the years! But it all came down on me when I googled pictures and interviews of him as his genuine self...
I never liked actors, they change too much depending on their movie at each period, so singers catch most of my attention and affection.
Rob is the first one, probably the only one I'll ever like and it's only because of who he is, no role-strings attached...
On the other hand Edward is another thing... I will always love this character, he's my ideal man and I am so happy I can now picture him with the perfect face of Rpattz!
I can't believe they're speculating on his sexuality... Why do they do that in the US so much??? No wonder he's overwhelmed and needs to escape to London from all of this... We Europeans are quite different on such things you know...
well, it's like they say: you know you're really famous when the gay-rumors start.
I wonder what it does to their friendship now one of them is so famous. After all, they are both actors, so Tom would like his share of success, too. Hope he can cope with it and won't get jealous. Envy is quite a common trait among actors.
Leanne you're right especially with PR stuff!
I must admit that when I saw Rob's pict the first time I didn't fall in love with him. I thought he was just a handsome actor nothing more *blush*
A few days later I watched interwiev with him (at that time I recognized him from HP) and since then I have been addicted to him! His honesty, intelligence and ability to listen freak us out!
When I first saw Rob's photo from Twilight I thought 'Omg! He looks like a gay! What have they done to him?' But it's all about make-up. In real life he looks 'completely straight'. He's just that soft kind of guys.
You are right, no gay man would be caught wearing those! Never! But, really, gay or straight, who cares? Let the guy be! Personally, I WOULD LOVE IF HE WAS GAY!!! That would help me (a lot) to get over my robsession and get some work done...

I agree with you Anon above. That's how I feel. I neeed to get Rob out of my head a little bit. I love him too much! and him being gay would help. I have always thought that though. He has too many feminin characteristics and i have always been jealous of his friend Tom. HE IS ALWASY WITH HIM! They do seem too close. If I were Kristen Stewart I would have left my bf for Rob in a sec. and she did seem a little too into him in the beginning of the Twilight madness until she probably found out he was gay then they just became good friends like she now claims they are. It also does'nt help that he made a movie like Little Ashes. He is a good actor though so it could just be great acting, or maybe he really enjoyed himself making that movie. You never know!? Gay or not, I STILL LOVE YOU ROB FOR BEING A GREAT ACTOR FOR BEING DIFFERENT AND FOR HAVING MANY TALENTS!

Anon above, hello.
And, to tell you the truth, Little Ashes will not help at all to get rid of my robsession. DID YOU SEE THE FAN TRAILER POSTED HERE? It is better than the one they released. It is beautiful & hot. The music is amazing. The art works mixing with the characters and the scenes. And they kiss (more than once), and get it on... Two hot men together, oh my... I dreamed about them last night, honestly.
But, I really wish HE IS GAY in his real life. Gay in real life would definitelly cool me down... I need to get over this robsession!!! I have work to be done! And, also, I wish he was uggly.
Meanwhile, he is gorgeous and loveable. Love his jaws. Porn dreams with them.
Off to bed now. Have a wet dream to catch!
Good nite, you all. Good nite, Rob!
Love you, gay or straight.

Yes I think Rob is dating Tom Sturridge... why else would'nt he be dating any girls..? when he has sooo many to pick from.
I still love and support Rob though! just come out of the closet already.
If he is gay or straight it is no one's business.
Personally I don't care. I just like to look at his pictures. I don't even ever want to see him in real life. It would ruin my crush. There is nothing wrong with drooling from afar,, very very far.
I do hope for the sake of his personal life and his future he has the sense to return to the UK and develop a career there, and to only return to LA when absolutely necessary. The fishbowl lifestyle people in LA live is not good for anyone especially someone as young and seemingly decent as he is.
