Question of the week: Has being British given you something extra to play a vampire?
Teenfirst had a question for Rob and it wins the "Question of the week" award! Seriously :))
Has being British given you something extra to play a vampire?
I don’t know if being British helps! (Laughs) It’s weird because there were a lot of British people up for this part. The author’s choice was an English guy which was really strange. She wanted all English guys to play Americans. I think there is something about this myth in America of British people being classy.
The rest of the interview:
Was there something that you did to convince them you were the one?
I don’t know. I just went in and I had a connection with Kristen. I think it was because I so expected it to be different to how it turned out and expected the girl who played Bella to be so different to Kristen, that I was so genuinely shocked when she did her performance.
I just thought it was going to be a real damsel in distress actress. And I couldn’t pretend to be the Prince Charming to some dippy girl! Not that that is how the book is. But I thought that was how the film would turn out. And of course Kristen is tough, smart and a good actress, and so it completely changed my opinion and so I ended up playing him as a kind of a wreck. That was how that happened.
What makes Edward different from the conventional vampire?
He doesn’t have fangs. He doesn’t die in the sunlight, but he does have pale skin. I dyed my hair a bronze colour. He’s completely reluctant. Most vampires don’t want to be vampires because there’s a moral issue involved and Edward has that belief. He doesn’t kill people anymore. But at the same time, he doesn’t really know if it’s right not to kill. And he can fit in with normal society.
Did you have to go to a dark place to play the role of a vampire?
Sort of. The way I wanted to play him was more of powerlessness, like he’s a kind of helpless character. He was unconscious when he was made into a vampire. He didn’t have a choice. He woke up three days later and he has to kill people and he doesn’t know why. He finds out that he’s never going to age and he’s going to live forever, and he’s like this Superman guy but he never asked for it.
But before that night he was this normal seventeen year old and now he has to go off and kill a bunch of people and it’s all his surrogate father figure’s fault he’s like an eternal adolescent. He’s very frustrated.
Did you get to do your own stunts?
I tried to. Some of them were pretty extreme and also my stunt double looks exactly like me. The scariest one was when I run and I put my hand out to stop this car which is racing towards me. I had practiced it a bunch of times but the car is like coming at 30 miles per hour. And I was sick on the day of shooting.
I had taken antibiotics and I was really dozy and the car went off its tracks. So there I am, holding Kristen’s stunt double and my timing was off because I wasn’t feeling too good and the car like hit me in the face. Then I dropped her and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Any injures?
I didn’t have any injuries but Kristen’s double could barely walk for a like a month. I felt so bad!!

SOOOO FUNNNY! I was about to post this. HA! I was looking for a good picture and cutting out the bits we have already read and then I thought...I bet she is posting this. So I go to look and delete it. Oh I send you a couple e-mails too Goz.
And aren't all Brits classy? I mean come on even when they are mean, that accent forgives right?
I don't think I've seen this pic before. One more for the adorkable pile.
um.. yes reporter being British gave him something extra, gave him Mom and Pop P's genes to work with.
Dani, I was so proud of myself for this post. I found it myself, not snagged from anywhere, just googling :))
The looking for a good picture part is so much fun isn't it? :) I got your emails :)
That is indeed. I saw what you meant Goz...bitches over there I tell you. It is so nice that we have a safe haven here to speak of Rob freely without rudeness ya know.
True that. Knock on wood, we remain troll free :) I guess it's because we don't show up on google search :P
Oh we show up on Google search. If you search Robsessed or something Rob related like Rob in so and so magazine. I have seen us pop up on there. Once we popped up the second link of the search!
Yeah we are awesome!
And still troll free...YAY!
Goz, can we put a troll warning on the blog? LMAO!
And yes, being part Brit... there's is just something about the accent. A good toff type accent.
Keep up the good work ladies...I only get to play for a little while today....
Teehee, yeah they have to be pretty specific in their search :PP
Okay babies, I'm off to bed. It's 12:40AM here. I miss the drunk midnight chats :-((
Muah!
Night Goz
Hey Jules- I missed ya last night.
Bye Goz...don't be modest babe you rock the blog love. I got lots of compliments last night from my IMDb ladies and the glitter peeps robismyglittercum they be loving us. And that place is made of win. Sometimes i just want to swear a little and then I do it there cause it is welcome.
But this be my safe haven from the Rob storm. Some people have gotten strait up crazy in this Rob world. I am so glad the ladies on here are respectful and kind. Damn it is a storm of hate on the net these days.
Oh how rude of me.
Hi Dani!
WE rock the blog and it would never be here if it weren't for our tight group of ladies here. So much love :))
Okay, I'm off! See y'all tomorrow. Don't burn down the blog while I'm gone :P
Hi Dana love!
You bet your sweet buns Goz...we have the best peeps in the world on this blog. The posters and lurkers alike are super awesome. Believe me I know...I talk to them all and give them cyber kisses daily.
Good stuff...now I have to step away from the computer to hang with my babe and call Lynn.
Sorry can't stay to chat Dana....thanks for not leaving me out.
Its ok Dani. I just popped on to say hello. I've gotta go make dinner.
Good gracious! What a superb article! I ALWAYS imagined Edward being British, I think that my Twibubble would have been burst if an American had played Edward. I think it's more about English mannerisms and the natural gallant nature of British men. JMHO!
Hey, Goz! I know that you're asleep but was the word, "dozy" a direct quote...because that is truly adorkable British...luv it!
