Twilight director Catherine Hardwick has parted ways with directing New Moon. I don't like to say fired and we don't know the circumstances exactly surrounding the situation. However below is statements from Summit and Catherine Hardwick regarding the recent news.
Los Angeles, CA, December 7, 2008 – Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted TWILIGHT film franchise. Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for NEW MOON. "I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct NEW MOON,” said Hardwicke. “Directing TWILIGHT has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel-- it is a great story." “Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the TWILIGHT franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. “We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch.”
Rob will still star in New Moon, so no worries there ladies, however it will be without Catherine Hardwick as a director. New Moon is set to start filming in March of next year, locations will be Portland OR, Canada, and Italy. I have heard the exterior for Volterra will be filmed in Italy and the interior shots done in Canada. No news yet on who will replace Catherine as director.

You do beautiful work, Dani!
Now I just have to buy my plane ticket to Portland to come and visit Dani. I already have my whip and taser ready ;)
Dani--Can I camp out in your backyard?? xoxoxo
Hey, we have a pop-up camper that sleeps 6, so room for me, Rob and 4 of you lovlies ;)
You can camp out in my spare room babe!
You too Stella-D you can snuggle with me and Bill. Bill is of course my dog. He is a Boston Terrier and quite the lover of the ladies.
I just keep wondering what SM must think of all of this.
Jov, I wonder what she thought about Twilight when she saw the finished product. I wish they would have stuck to the story more closely and developed the relationships better.
Well I don't have a dog, but when you come to Mexico Dani, I'll feed my mom's famous dishes :)
I personally don't care what the woman thinks, she is a multi millionaire because of these books and the film deals, I am sure she isn't upset one bit.
She will work with Summit as long as they pay her the dough. Sitting pretty that one.
What I am concerned with is Mellissa I write shitty scripts Rosenberg. She should have been fired.
Yeah, about the movie, I just kept thinking that they fell in love too quickly. My husband saw it with me the 2nd time (hasn't read the book, bad boy) said the same thing. Also, did anyone ever come up with a reason that they never actually said I love you? Maybe I missed that discussion.
Stephanie Meyer said that Rob should get an Oscar for his performance.
I don't really want to rely on her for judgement in anything related to the films.
While Rob was good in the movie, it was no where near an Academy Award winning performance. I mean I adore the guy but really get real.
Dani...find us the closest hotel that you can find....and then book the whole fucking wing! We'll give those TWiMOMs a run for their money...WE have it in spades compared to them! GAME ON!
Whoa, Dani. I just meant the vision of her book from the page to the screen for her.
She is a power to be reckoned with now in Hollywood.
I was not at all impressed with Melissa Rosenberg. My main problem with the movie was how crappy the script was. I could write a better screenplay and I'm not a screenwritter!
Ditto, Karla
HA! Oscar? Really? Yeah he was great and sexy as all get out, but that was no Oscar-worthy performance.
Stella-D I would adore your mums tasty treats. I would simply bring Bill to Mexico as well, he deserves your mums cooking too.
Hey I don't mean to get snarky about SM, she is a nice lady I am sure but a little off with her comments sometimes.
Goz really adores SM, so I will be nice from now on. I liked SM's books but I would have liked her input to be minimal if not at all on the film.
Yeah Dani...I agree...
Rob has the acting chops...just hasn't fully accessed them yet...
That's why I don't tell people I'm pretty, women aren't nice to me.
That's why blogs are good.
lmao
I don't really think SM should have too much input, I was just curious what she thought about the movie after seeing it.
It's okay, Dani it takes a lot to ruffled my feathers, back off pit bull, I'm a lab.
Sorry Jovie, I get a little passionate when it comes to SM sometimes. Like I said I will be good from now on.
No offense to you babe, angry passion was not directed at you.
Ditto Sabrizzle.
I thought the script just left out too much.
Jovie... I love that you have such a positive self image! I wish I had that at your age...
I allowed myself to be crippled by so many image from the eighties like Sharon Stone...
No offense taken. I am a huge SM fan. As a writer, I admire her.
Hon, she rocks the publishing world.
Her story is amazing.
She's brilliant a genius, really a stay at home mom, typing her story in her head with a baby on her lap.
I love that woman.
I admire her so much. So much.
I would have rather seen the build up of the relationship than have James & co running around town. Don't get me started, I could go on forever about how the script was so terribly flawed.
Dani, have I told you lately how much I love you? :-)) You are so sweet to back off for me. I love SM. I will be forever grateful to her for creating Twilight, she deserves every penny she made.
The screenplay was shitty, the direction was shitty. The only saving grace of the movie was Rob. They didn't say I love you, they fell in love very fast and with no reason etc.
And Jovie: Here is a cyberspank from me to you for the 1 word posts :-)
Positive self image?
Can you elaborate Jules?
SM is a power to be recognized in Hollywood? Well, that just sucks, she should work on her writing skills. Yes the books are addictive, but I find her writing to be lacking.
Stephenie Meyer is you're reading this I love you hon.
You are amazing!!!
Jovie, what's up with your blog? Where's the stuff, pics, etc.??? I like to put a face to a name :) My blog, is the opposite - full of inane ramblings and family stories that only my mother would care about, LOL.
Then...then I learned that I am one hot, crazy, sexy, no limits, unbelievablely risk taking MF! Yeah Baby!
Well, my sweethearts, i've got to get to bed (12{30 here and up at 5.
Love you all and see you tomorow!
Off to my Rob dreams...
And Dani--thanks for the spare room; Rob says thanks, too.
WooHoo!
SAbrizzle not for her writing skills, for her skills of telling a story.
That woman can tell a story!
Goodnight Ellie!
See, a lot of people think books are supposed to all be literary feats. They are not, some are, some not.
In the words of Mark Twain
"Classics are books people like to say they've read but they haven't"
Just look at JK Rowling, she sold the rights of its books to Warner Bros, set some basic rules and stuff, and has left Warner to do its job. At least I've never read that JK has been on the set or asked the directors to tone down some scene..
Nite nite Ellie :-)
Karla, I write, I don't want anyone to rec. me and my family has no idea I am lusting over a 22 year old actor. They would die.
I wasn't complaining about SM's storytelling, I think she's amazing. I had a problem with Melissa Rosenburg's adaptation because I felt it completely ruined SM's story.
I agree Mich.
I am scared to show my idenity.
Positive self image Jules?
Books are mostly supposed to entertain.
The Twilight Sage achieved that big time. In fact they are addictive.
Iconic lit figure, developed to the point it was insane.
She created a lit figure that even changed Rob's life.
And although I would have loved to see a full on make out scene with Rob and Kristen I thought SM was right in telling them to tone it down. If the toned down version was Bells in bed with her underwear and Edward on top of her I dunno what they had before! I mean in Twilight they only have these kisses that lead to nowhere and Edward backs up when Bella uses her tongue :-)
I am like Goz, with SM. There are two in that camp.
Please don't talk bad about her, or at least be fair when you do.
I am a writer who loves her, and admires her very, very much.
YES, Sabrizzle! They totally need to chop that James and Co. on a killing spree shit out! I felt like I was being treated like a baby by them saying to me, "see, these are the bad guys, they kill people." UGH, we're not stupid! Same with the last scene. Duh, of course Victoria is coming back, Edward just told Bella she got away, they didn't need that painfully obvious "Victoria's coming back and she's pissed" scene!
So as a writer..what do you truly want...
To tap the pulse of those who read your books...
Or do you want to be at the top of the bestseller list.....
As a writer...(still hoping to call myself that...) I want to tap the pulse....so desperately...
That's what SM did with "Twilight'. Denied sexual contact.... danger...as a woman...yep we want that so badly...
Hi Goz, I promise, I try not to treat your blog like an IM.
Sometimes it's so difficult.
Having the bad vamps running around in the movie also created character flaws with the Cullens because they would have known they were in town and they would not have left Bella unprotected. The baseball scene never would have happened if James was lurking around.
When all of you realize just how difficult it is to get a book published, you'll see what I mean.
It's crazy out there.
Her story is amazing, Absolutely amazing.
Jovie, that as good of an explanation as any :) Just curious! Love ya anyway!
Jov! I just saw that pic that you are using as your avatar on RPonline tonight! LOVING IT!
Still trying to find the screen cap of him lying on his stomach showing that lovely comfy, cushiony ass of his!
Jewels, thank you.
She has rabid fans. And she has treated her fans very well. She really is unusual for an author.
I am connected to Nicholas Sparks and he is a jerk.
An absolute jerk.
Don't get me started on his books,
it's all formula.
I can't stand him.
Gotta head off to bed. My kids are early risers.
Kisses!
Anything for you Goz...don't get me wrong I love the books...Hell thats what brought me to all of you people indirectly/directly.
If Goz thinks SM is good people, I will trust in her judgement.
Sweet Roblicious dreams Karla!
Sparks?...OMG! I freaking think he has raped the romance thing beyond belief....
Yeah the no 'I love you's' thing pissed me off a lot :( That was very disappointing - and Melissa's fault for not adding it in anywhere. Hearing Kristen say 'she was in love with him' in a voice over was NOT ENOUGH in my opinion. It should have been in the movie at LEAST once. This is an EPIC love story dammit that spans over 4 books/4 films!!
Karla, you're welcome.
I could talk books all night.
My fantasy is to talk about books with Rob.
They are my passion.
Books changed my life.
In the heart of it remember SM possibly changed some reluctant readers into readers and inspired some people to take up writing.
Please, don't trash her.
My picture on line? No way in hell.
Jewels, a relative who is his good friend wouldn't even call our book club or give us an e-mail.
Well, no the e-mail he did send had all these typos. I think that's when I said wtf, to typos.
Nick Sparks doesn't even care and he still has a career.
What happened to putting up your pic and taking it down real quick Jov?
His good friend who he wrote his first book with where I met him at their wedding, he didn't even give them his time.
I was like, you jerk, you are so full of yourself.
Good night Karla :-) It's time for me to go to bed too.
Thanks for all the work you are putting in Danilicious. I am trying to finish up my business in US :-(( It's going to be a bumpy month. sigh...
Nite nite ladies...
Hugs
Oh and Dani you look so sexy and beautiful, love the new picture!
Crap...when I read that Steph M. was writing maybe 2 sequels to "The Host"...I cheered!
Hate me if you will (and need too, I'm a big gal with big girl panties!) but I love "The Host" more than "Twilight". For me to find out that she is writing maybe two more stories as sequels to "The Host"....!?! LOVING IT!
Goodnight Goz!
Jovie, you promised in the last thread to upload an actual picture of you for 5 minutes. We are still waiting.. lol
Baby steps Sabrizzle. I took a pic of my bathtub with all the glass tiles and marble surround and stuff and uploaded it wrong and would much rather type and listen to Tom Wait's.
If someone sees my photos and my cover is blown and I can't do this, it's not worth it.
Rob not being able towalk around and saying I guess it's worth it, is kind of what I'm reviewing right now.
My photo, my anomity. I love how SM used to enter fanfic in the contests to see how she would do.
I have described myself thou, I think haven't I?
I can tell you what you want to know.
Jewels I'm still waiting on the pic thing and the positive self image elaboration.
Jov...I know how I picture you in my mind...Trust me...I do you justice! Just like the rest of the other lovely ladies here....
Night Goz...I will e-mail you tomorrow. Sweetness...got to be tough putting the US behind you.
Can I say one big thing that pissed me off about Melissa Rosenberg and her crap script that was so incredibly wrong.
NO I LOVE YOUS!!! BULLSHIT! If you ask me. That damn "so the loin fell in love with the lamb" business was in it but no "I love you"? Not cool. That should have been fought for in the script.
Nite Goz, miss you.
I feel like you're the ghost writer.
Agree Dani. He incredibly loved her for God sake.
That script was so incredibly flawed.
Dani...get behind me girlfriend before I bitch slap someone for forgetting the "I love You"'s....
I learned a long time ago when I was in college to not go home with a guy who says let's go get wine and then he ends up taking you to his place instead of the liquor store and I had to get out of it by saying "Let me take my friends home and then I'll come back."
I have never been that stupid again since I was 18. The drinking age in Arizona was 18 and I learned a lot.
I've never really been stupid again.
Damn ass men.
The no "I love you" thing bugged me too!
Dani, you know the lion and lamb thing had to be on the movie, otherwise the book fan base would have gone mad.
But yeah, I missed hearing the I love you. Maaybeee they did it so when Edward leaves Bella in NM it will be sorta believable? For the two persons out there that haven't read the books.
They only put the lion and lamb in because of SM, because she said people have that line tatooed on their bodies for god sake, they might riot the theatre if it's not in there.
Jovie...seriously...
My slapping the hand on the forehead action just kicked in without any prompt.
Of course I didn't come back to his place.
I think SM was always trying to be supportive. I think she was just so happy to see her book become a movie. She was thrilled. That is thrilling for her I am sure.
I would trade "lion and lamb" for some effing I love yous any day and I adore the books.
The cheestastic lines were terrible. There were so much better iconic Twilight lines in the book to choose from.
Yeah, but the lion and the lamb thing was a blip on my radar. There were so many more other things that put the cheese on my macaroni....
Jules you and I if we got together we would just laugh our asses off I am sure.
I am quick with the tongue, that's one of my faults.
I try to stay quiet but I can't.
You know that thing on Dateline or whatever and the guy is mistreating the woman and only one woman spoke up and it was to a black guy.
I would be that woman.
I'm like how can you not speak up when it's right.
I don't scare of many things, just not being able to type.
I don't think there is any way they could have made the "lion fell in love with the lamb" thing not sound incredibly cheesy. I would have preferred some "I love you"s.
Macaroni, we have to do what we have to do.
And when you are blessed with looks you have to be smart, or they'll slip you the date rape drug or something.
I have taken self defense and I don't take chances. That's why I live with three big dogs.
Quick with the tongue? Liking that! So would Rob....
Jovie...that boy would not know what hit him if we tagged teamed him...
My main beef with the script is they needed more continuity and they didn't capture why these two felt the way they did about each other.
Maybe it's best I don't talk about the script because I could go on all night.
I'd rather talk about Mr. Sexy.
Amen to that Jules, he would have such a good time with us.
Sorry, just blissed out listening to Duran Duran...I am such a child of the 80's!
Simon just rocked my world! "Save a Prayer"....I am so thinking of Rob! Okay...so when am I not?......
Agreed Jov, I could go on forever about the problems with the script but I'd rather talk about Rob.
My dogs would kill someone before they let someone hurt me and they are labs, especially Livie.
She is like me incredibly affectionate but she doesn't mess around.
That's why I walk them twice a day so they know who is pack leader.
Well, one of the reason, and Jules I love 80's music.
70's a lot also.
"Some people call it a one night stand...but we can call it paradise..."
YEP! Still loving Duran Duran after all these years....
I'm back. You girls have been chatting up a storm. And I agree about the disappointment of no "I Love you".
Side note: James McAvoy is one sexy bad ass mo fo in Wanted. And Angelina Jolie- that woman is smoking!
Ooohhh....Dana...
Don't get me started on the McAvoy in "Wanted"....
May have to make sure the new batteries work in the battery operated hand held device...
Dana, could you imagine Rob in that role?
He will steal Hollywood. They don't even know what hit them when he's done with it.
That man has so much charm, and his self-effacing giggle and wit.
He is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Jov- I was actually picturing Rob in it as I watched.
He just needs me for his wife to watch out for him.
I'd be like the wife on Jerry McGuire with the Rod Tillman character.
"Jerry, don't you mess with us."
Really Dana? I think the women would of left the theate having to be carried out if he was in it.
I have to rent that tomorrow.
I just want Rob to put his foot down a lot because everyone wants a piece of him and people in Hollywood are such users.
That's why I am so glad he has read "Money" and the Ivan movie he likes. He know how they work it.
I will deliver the goods just don't screw with me.
Sorry my Juno is coming out tonight.;)
What the hell my avatar is up too much again.
That's why I can't have cyber sex with anyone.
They can't keep up with me.
rotflmao
I think Rob would be able to thou.
lmao
Yeah I was trying to picture him toting around a gun. I couldn't quite get a handle on it, but then again James McAvoy pleasantly suprised me and was very believable so mabye one day it could work for Rob. I just have a hard time picture him being all rough and tough just because he's more of an "adorkable" kind of guy. Who knows though, maybe in Eclipse when he fight's Victoria we will be able to see his bad ass side.
Yeeeeaaaahhhh....Rob toting a semi-automatic? NOT!
I want my man vunerable...conflicted...sexy (hell yeah!), driven, ... okay so "Twilight" fits the criteria...
But, watching Rob toting a machine gun...not schmexy in my book!
I don't want Hollywood to rob him of his soul.
Because it's such a beautiful soul.
I was truly afraid of that... remember my questions?
Oh I can't wait to see Rob in the Edward vs. Victoria action. I hope he doesn't injure himself.
I think he'll be pretty smart about his script choices after the Twilight saga.
He reads a lot, that will help him and soon he'll try to start doing his own projects.
I can't wait for Rob and Rachel LeFevre to tear it up in "Eclipse"... Nice...
He doesn't want to action movies. He realizes he's not cordinated enough and he had said he likes melodrama.
I think he'll go for the more oscar worthy type movies, not movies to make money only.
He now has a lot of options, unlike before.
He doesn't want to add to the shit pile and he doesn't have an elaborate lifestyle to support, so that's a plus.
He'll be able to be selective now.
When I first started watching Wanted all I could picture was James McAvoy as that half man half creature thing in Narnia!
I don't really see Rob as being the hard-bodied type of guy either. But I had to try!
Okay...I get it... Y'all want to see him doing the heavy gun action!
Not me... He's my Johnny Depp kinda guy who realizes that the word is mightier than the sword....
I know one day we'll see him up on stage accepting his Oscar.
He'll be crazy amazed and humble and say "I didn't even really want to be an actor."
"I'm still not sure I want to be an actor."
Thank you Jules!!!!!!!!!!
Jovie...How did I know YOU would understand....?
Ladies, he has a lot of depth.
He reads a lot.
I am sure there are a lot of movies he would like to see made.
He will probably not gravitate to the shoot em up stuff.
He is very deep.
Because I'm your cheese.
I just want someone to eat cheese with.
Jewels- No, no. I don't necessarily want to see him in that type of role. I was just trying to see if I could picture it in my head, and when it's all said and done I can't. I don't think it will work. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
I'm not really a big fan of action movies so I'm completely fine with it if he avoids them.
Jules Babe... you have mail.. lol
Sabrizzle, Twilight just passed 150 million,
he will now be able to do some projects he really would like to do.
A gun movie is not high on his list, I am sure of this.
His choices will probably amaze you.
I know, I'm really looking forward to Parts Per Billion because he says it is such a poetic script. I'm really curious about that one.
The gun movies are not always interesting stories.
I think he wants to dive into good stories.
That is the magic of film being able to bring a story to film that is incredibly wonderful.
Like Cider House Rules, there are just so many.
The big blockbuster stuff has it's place but what is really great is when it's not to build star power but to just bring an incredible story to life.
Oh c'mon on! Really? Rob didn't do all of his stunts in "Twilight", he had two, count 'em ....TWO! stunt doubles....
I love Edward...truly I do...but i love that Rob wants to take him deeper emotionally.
But...I just can't see Rob doing the shoot 'em up thing.... He is the quiet guy that you had the unbelivable crush on in High School. I had an Edward...I'm sure the rest of you did too...
Look!....Relax and get over it! It was a lovely book that made us all shivery and shit...but Rob is trying his hardest to bring a character to life that we ALL have an idealized vision of!
It's just a book..just a movie...Rob is the real thing.....!
I like movies that are unique and interesting. I think action movies tend to be repetative and somewhat boring, so I'm glad he's not interested in them.
Sabrizzle, we are on the same page hon,
I think Parts Per Billion will make us cry.
He is a musician incredibly in love with his woman pregnant and they are facing death, the end of the world, the emotions that will be brought out by that story. I think it follows three couples, their individual relationships with the backstory of this drama going on.
I love that he loves to read. He will not be lazy about his choices.
Jewels, you always bring a smile to my face.
We just love this guy don't we?
Jovie...if you could send any book to Rob...what would it be?
Believe it or not... my choices would be "The Tao of Pooh" or "Zen and the Art of Motorcyle Maintenance!"
I am so interested to follow his career but I hope the intensity of the feelings I have for him lessen for him and I can just be interested instead of lusting.
Kind of like how I am with James Franco.
I loved him in Tristan & Isolde when he cries so well.
He is the best male actor crier I have ever seen.
Ha Ha. Jewels your rants make me laugh. Yes thank God Rob is a real person--my dreams have been so much sweeter because of him. And because of his talent and incredible good looks I have found this place and met all of you fine people.
Oh, wow, Jules let me think on that a minute.
Such a GOOD question.
Amen Dana.
Gawd, I love when you're on.
Jov- Tristan and Isolde was on tonight too. And I liked James Franco in Nights in Rodanthe. I know it was a small role but I just loved his scene at the end.
Franco was fab in "Tristan and Isolde"! I adore that story...so tragic...
Dana...hello gorgeous...so glad you could join our party...
CRAP...Is that the time! I have to get up at 5 in the a.m.....
Still I'm listening to Van Morrison... talking to y'all...yeah...it's all good..WTF is sleep when you're having fun....
Franco was fab in "Tristan and Isolde"! I adore that story...so tragic...
Jules-- I'm sorry if my comments made you mad.
Hmmm...books for Rob. I read this one book in my English lit class in university called Maus: A Survivor's Tale.
This is the wikipedia description:
Maus: A Survivor's Tale is a memoir by Art Spiegelman, presented as a graphic novel. The graphic novel as a whole took thirteen years to complete. It recounts the struggle of Spiegelman's father to survive the Holocaust as a Polish Jew and draws largely on his father's recollections of his experiences. The book also follows the author's troubled relationship with his father and the way the effects of war reverberate through generations of a family. In 1992, it won a Pulitzer Prize Special Award. All people are presented as anthropomorphic animals (for example, all Jews are depicted as mice, hence the name Maus which is German for "mouse").
Stells...refresh my ancient old mind...WTF are you riffing about...
I think I would send him "Blink!" or "The Tipping Point" by Malcom Gladwell. Both take an interesting look at society and the subconcious mind.
Dana...damn...nice choice...
SEND IT TO HIM!
Shakespeare still does it for me....
That book was amazing. It's layed out like a comic book--very unique. I'm gonna have to go dig it out of storage in my basement and read it again.
My good bud (who happens to share Rob's b-day) and I once wrote a graphic novel and submitted it to "Heavy Metal" magazine..
We were rejected...but they said to try it again, tweak some things....So...now I try to write...
Alright lovely ladies. I'm exhausted. I was up at 6:45am and it's now 1:40 so I better be off to bed.
Goodnight :)
There are a lot I can see him in.
I will think on it over night.
Jovie...got to my blog now!!!!!~! Seriously...NOW.....
Nite Dana, it's only 10:43 where I am, so happy to of talked with you.
Goodnight Dana!
wtf, jewels did you get mad at me because I devuldged a storyline?
Jov, there are two new posts if you haven't seen them yet.
Thanks Sabrizzle, I saw that but I'm trying to reach Jules on her blog.
i'll be right there.
Jov...I didn't get mad..I'm just itching to talk and swap stories on our own....
Thanks Jules,
I just get freaked out when I divuldge stuff.
