New Article-Vancouver Sun

Twilight star Robert Pattinson stumbles, sucks blood, stumbles again.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

But Pattinson isn't behaving like a ruined being today. He figures that had he been a fan, he would have had the same reaction to such casting.

"I was embarrassed even going into the audition," he remembers. "You look at the synopsis. Edward is the perfect man. He has an impeccable face and body. Everything about him is amazing."

Could Pattinson live up to that image? Not by a long shot. "It was just so stupid." As for the roasting he received on the Internet: "I was happy when it was a 100-per-cent negative reaction. I was like - thank you." When he was attacked as "a bum" by one irate fan, he said to himself: "Cool! I'm going to be a character actor instead."

Now, of course, there's a been huge sea change. Pattinson has become hot stuff.
By all accounts, he wasn't the most compliant of actors during filming.

There were disagreements over how he should approach his character, some of them triggered by his desire to play Edward like a manic-depressive: as he suggested recently to Entertainment Weekly, this seemed like a perfectly sound approach, given that Pattinson is coping with the "purgatory" of being a vampire. But at the end, he seems to have emerged serenely from both the highs and the lows.

He had no trouble assuming an American accent. "It wasn't very difficult. I grew up watching American movies. All my favourite actors are American. So it was osmosis."

But he had a lot of trouble with the script's physical demands - not just a brutal fight scene with a predatory vampire but something as mundane as a family baseball game played vampire style.
"I'm completely unco-ordinated," he confesses. "I'm terrible at all sports."

In fact he considers them pointless. "Catherine was determined to make me look like a professional baseball player, and literally I couldn't take it seriously."

It seemed that whenever he was involved in stunt work, he suffered an injury.
"My hand-eye co-ordination is bad. But I have a good stunt double. He is a professional free runner. I can do something and get injured and look like crap playing it, or he can do it and make it look really good and no one notices the difference."

After walking into one too many doors, he gave up. "I managed to pick up so many injuries whenever I tried the simplest of stunts." In one scene where he was supposed to pick up Kristen Stewart in his arms, he broke a hamstring - and "that isn't even a stunt."

June 21st, huh? Shoot, so the movie's actually been out for 5 months and poor Rob is still doing all this promoting. He is going to be mad when he finds out.

Does this man’s glorious eye color change with his clothes? These Sex Drive pics are pure porn.

emily, do you think that maybe the poor interviewer was **dazzled** by his presence and misdated?

Dani said...

I took that part out it was the boring part of the article and yes that is a MAJOR typo on their part. I instead posted about his lack of skill in the stunt department that is just more entertaining.

Emily said...

mm - That has to be it. June, November...whatever. Honest mistake. And yes, I agree about the Sex Drive pictures. The hair has never looked better.
I agree that the rest of the article was very entertaining, Dani. Thanks for posting it! I really don't think he's quite as awful at stunts and sports as he's always saying. But if it's true, it only makes him more adorable and he more than makes up for it in other areas.

Rob's lack of coordination and sportmanship is just insanely cute for some reason. I laugh ever time I watch the behind the scenes interviews where you see Rob throw the branch (a la strength of Edward) and it goes about a foot. Again, it just makes him goofy and loveable.

I guess it counteracts the magical jawline, sex hair, intense stare, large Mickey mitt hands, his musical genius, stellar intelligence, humility, geezus...the list goes on.

Emily - They smoke a lot of pot in Vancouver. Dude, what comes after October ... like ... June?

And we're a little off kilter here in Canada anyway. It comes from constantly trying to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, US$ to Cndn$ and French to English.

Amy said...

Well at least he is getting more LOVE from Canadians on the west coast!! Rob, you have Canada covered now...everyone here loves you :)

I love this part,

"Pattinson's own readiness to bring soul, suffering and sexiness to his characterization."

Dani said...

I love how he justs puts it out there "I like fast food, im lazy don't do much or have many friends, im boring and horrible at activities requiring the minimal in athletic ability."

There was this awesome set report from some PA on Twilight where they described Rob running and tripping over something over and over, running the wrong direction and in the wrong way. And on more than one occasion forgetting to set the brake after parking the volvo, and running quickly to put it on before it rolled away.

He is such a goof!

~MindyMc said...

Oh Dani, don't tell stories like that about him, it just makes me love him more. It's not healthy, not healthy at all.

What other little tales do you have.....?

Lynn said...

Dani---Rob gives lackadaisical and uncoordinated a sexy new twist. Oh, I forgot I love the vids of him running in the parking lot, he still kind of looks like Kermit the Frog. Rob's imperfections are just those that we are drawn to.

kristen said...

Yeah, all of his supposed "faults" just make him more adorable. I think he is honestly trying to tell people all the "bad" stuff about him in the hopes that people will leave him alone, but I think it just has the opposite effect on everyone :)

Amy said...

He is SO honest and that is extremely refreshing to see :) He doesn't hide anything or have a fake persona, and he is totally genuine and humble. I love that. Everyday I feel like I'm learning something new about him!

Aside from the fact that he is incredibly gorgeous, he's really going to be such a great actor and have a even greater career if he stays the way he is now.

Amy said...

Did you girls see in that one interview he said that he got his international driver's license in Portland and that it was his first time driving ever. And they had him do stunt driving like right after...that would have been scary! No wonder he forgot about the brake in the Volvo... haha he's not used to driving at all.

Emily said...

I can understand the car driving issues he had on set. Remember that interview where he said he'd only had his driver's license for about 10 hours when they wanted him to start doing all the stunt driving? I'm just glad he didn't hurt himself.
Although picturing Rob chasing after the runaway Volvo is pretty funny. Stupid parking brake!
I wonder if he ran the wrong direction during the baseball scene.
"Okay, Rob, run to first base!"
"Umm, okay. Here I go!"
"No, towards the right! No! Your other right!"
"Screw this. Just get the stunt guy."

Dani said...

mm I remember practically everything I see and read especially if it interests me like Rob clearly does. So if I think of anymore tid bits I will let you know. I have a bit of a photographic memory. It is a blessing and a curse. I am FULL of useless knowledge.

Lynn said...

Amy---my sentiments exactly! So, are you going to try see Rob in Canada?

Rose said...

The more I learn, the more I love.

I'm thinking that Rob probably isn't THAT bad at sports and such...I mean...he doesn't think he's all that good looking, either.
:)

~Rose

Lynn said...

Emily---LOL I picture Rob running the bases backwards, I cannot tell you how many times I have seen tee-ballers do that!

Lynn said...

Rose---no, Rob is just that bad at sports. Have you seen all the behind the scenes stuff where he has to run and throw stuff. I am not the most athletic person, but, I do know about running form and how to throw.

But, overall it just makes him that much more approachable and lovely!

Emily said...

You're right, Lyla. Nothing could turn us off to Rob. That IMDb thread we've talked about before - The fountain of unconditional love - had a great post a while back. Someone said Rob is probably thinking if he starts kicking puppies or pushing down old people, the crazy girls will finally leave him alone. But the fangirl response would be, "I hate puppies too! Who needs old people, they're old!"
Sorry Rob, being bad at sports and stunts just isn't going to be enough to make us stop loving you.

Rose said...

I do agree...Rob has that goofy charm going for him. I mean it's all part of what makes him so lovable.

Anonymous said...

Well said Emily! Add to that Rob could slap a hooker and we'd say - 'Phssht! Hookers make more money than I do anyway.'

kristen said...

Emily - Hahaha that is SO funny. I didn't see that response on the IMDB board, but it really is so true. I think nothing short of kicking puppies and clubbing baby seals would make people stop loving him. Poor guy can't do ANYTHING to make himself undesirable.

Also, loved your baseball comment - I totally bet that's what happened. I can just picture him missing the ball repeatedly when he was up at bat and then running backwards when he actually did hit the ball. He is too cute for words.

Dani said...

Lynn I am totally looking forward to seeing those baseball scenes. I am out of shape but I used to play competative volley ball and soft ball and seeing Rob who clearly doesn't have the skill in that arena is going to be sooooo funny!

I want to see him bulk up a little before New Moon...I think his skinny ass will look a bit more foxy with some muscle and not a lot of stunts in New Moon for Edward so I think he will be good to go.

Lynn said...

Lyla--I read how the cast had to learn to bat and bat left handed (I think that this was a filming issue). So, Rob had a double whammy by having to learn to play ball and bat unnaturally. Dude, could you just love him more?

Aussierobfan said...

I loved the IMDB thread of unconditional love - so true!!

Is it possible Rob is trying to counter balance all the so called perfection of Edward - he talks a lot about how he was embarrassed auditioning about for the part and how he didn't want people to think that he thought he was perfect. It's almost like he's trying to show the world he doesn't think he's perfect.

Just a thought..

Rose thank you for the link I loved the interview - watching while drinking my latte and eating my scone. Why is he still surprised when people know things about him?

Lynn said...

Dani- Rob is fortunate for CH's fabulous editing, but, it certainly will be very entertaining.

I am watching today's Ellen and we missed out on some serious swag by one day. But, the major swag will be next Thursday with Rob. Dammit, I actually want to go back to LA!

Rose said...

You're welcome:) I thought it was cute, too.

I don't think Rob will be buffing up for New Moon...sounds like he wants to play Edward in a really dark, sad place...(which of course he was) and being thin and scrawny kinda fits that mood.
Although I personally think he should gain a few pounds...sometimes he almost looks frail. Or is that just me wanting to protect him from all the screeching and screaming lunatics out there?

~Rose

kristen said...

Lynn - Oh nooo! Poor Rob got shafted having to learn how to bat left handed! That is a double whammy, and would actually be really hard. Poor guy was probably wondering what the hell he did to deserve that :)

Dani - I would also love to see him bulk up a tiny bit for New Moon, but I don't know if my heart could handle it. I mean, considering how ridiculously good looking he is as it is, I can't even imagine him being even hotter with a little more muscle on his skinny frame. Getting warm just thinking about it.

Lynn said...

Dani--did you get the How To Be update? Texas is getting the Rob love again at the Lonestar Film Festival in Fort Worth with an appearance from Johnny White. Grrr...I still have to see this film!

Lynn said...

Lyla---perhaps if you've never played ball, you would never know any better. Rob was on the same boat as Ashley Greene and they were equally bad at baseball.

La Stella said...

I think he is trying to make us believe what he said in the Variety interview.. the bit about "don't like me, I AM A DICK".

Oh Rob, you can't get rid of us. Although it is charming to see him talk about all his flaws. He seems even more adorkable.

~MindyMc said...

Dani, I do the same thing. There is no such thing as useless info when it pertains to Rob. It's like hording little beautiful gems to dream over later.

You ladies are all lovely. I hope the remainder of your day is wunnerful. I'm heading home....

Dani, I love you photographic memory. You're doing an awesome job today and even all the while, while you are working. As I've said before, you rock.
Also, I love that Rob doesn't like sports.:)) I don't like when a guy is sports glued. He's too soulful.
Jov

kristen said...

Lynn - True. Maybe it would be easier starting from a blank slate rather than already being used to playing right-handed. Well either way, it sounds like Rob didn't have an easy time of it :) I can't wait to see the baseball scene... Or rather, ALL of the scenes. Only 8 more days!

Anonymous said...

Sorry I haven't commented much or looked at that much, I'm trying to be good and disciplined and finish editing.
Jov
There's almost too much to look at.
It's overwhelming for me and I'm sure Rob is on overload.

La Stella said...

Kate-- that morning news link just sends you to a picture of somebody's family.

Dani said...

Hey sorry for the lack of updates today ladies but there aint much out there and I have been really busy at work. I have cramps!

ahhhhhh Lynn I am so jazzed to see How to Be I wish Portland got more Rob love. This movie couldn't come out soon enough.

Amy said...

Some good pics from the Chicago event!!! Mr. Pattinson looking sexy as per usual...and kinda hilarious in the first pic, haha

Amy said...

So the Philadelphia screaming fest is going on right now?!!! Some people on IMDB are there I think and reporting - Apparently Rob is in the store now. lol It's a play by play. I love how everyone just bands together for news. It's awesome :)

Aussierobfan said...

Can anybody remember what day the you tube footage of the fan of Rob's was posted?

Dani said...

If you want to e-mail them to me you can Amy but I can't see them on that site because of the firewall on my computer. Are they the same ones from some news station who took them of him signing autographs and such?

Aussierobfan said...

Never mind I found it.

Amy said...

What is your email Dani?

It's just ones of him on stage making funny faces, etc...they are pretty good quality.

Dani said...

danielle.arthur@providence.org

its my work e-mail can't get to yahoo at work. So send em there if you please.

Lynn said...

Ahhh, Pattinson Online has a vid of the first ppl to see Rob in Philadelphia. The first person was a woman who teaches high school and it was her students that turned her on to Twilight. Very cute story and very lucky lady!

Thanks Lynn for the info.

My head is spinning with all these links and threads of information...

are you going to post them later Dani or should I follow them from the comment thread?

Dani said...

Tess follow them from the comments and I will post some stuff when I get home. Sorry I can't access certain sites but nothing really new is out today so I am scouring the net. Planning another picture montage for the time being.

Anonymous said...

Amy - I'm following the IMDB thread as well:

'Kelly, Did you shake his hand? Because if you did you are sooo dating him now. ;o)'

Kelly's Response:
'I did not get to shake his hand but he ran his fingers thru his sex hair (sans beanie, too!) So that counts as consent, right? Hahahhaha.'

Tess said...

Dani- Can you find a virgin version of the photo I email to you a few days again from the Apple lounge...

that one deserves a thread of it's own...

He was sexing me with his eyes in that one..

Dani said...

I will work on it, I can't check my e-mail here but I know the pic and I will designate a post just for that one for you.

Dani said...

Tess Busted daily took those pics and there isn't any without the BUSTED DAILY streamed accross the front. So I dunno if that pic exists in its virgin form.

Eva said...

Thanks for the posts and all the links in the comments!

Estrellas, sorry only seeing your comment about the link not working now, it's working for me but it's up on the blog now anyway so I hope you enjoyed it! ;-)
