11/10 San Francisco Hot Topic Event w/ Rob CANCELLED!

Sorry to report that the SF Hot Topic event has been cancelled due to a crowd of 3,000 that showed up. Security at this event was expecting 200-500 people, and what were they thinking? Police had to struggle to restrain the large crowd. I am sorry for the people who came and are unable to see Robert, and I hope that this isn't an indication of things to come.

People at this event got hurt, one girl reportedly had her nose broken, and another could barely breath being pushed around the crowd after people started storming the door.

Hopefully at the next events security will be more prepared, as for the fans, please respect one another. Rob is not God, he is a normal person with an extraordinary job who deserves your respect. So lets make the next appearance go a little smoother, and understand that only the first 500 get a wristband, pushing and shoving and hurting one another isn't going to do any good.

I want to make it clear that I am sure there were some wonderful fans in the crowd who are most definitely not to blame for the chaos. Mall security and Hot Topic should have been more prepared.

Too bad Rob doesn't know all the wonderful fans who are on here everyday who know he is made of awesome. Hopefully one of our followers will be able to meet Rob on this tour at some point and report back to us with good news.

I don't like the whole HT thing, but I think it's sad that they had to cancel the event because of some fans and the lack of enough security.

people.com had a little article for Rob, nothing new.

Oh no, thats too sad. I can imagine that Robert would also be upset about this, since he does like to meet his fans. They need to realize after Mexico, Rome, and NY that Robert is very popular...and should prepare enough sercurity anticipating large crowds. I also think that Fans need to calm down! I agree completely with what you said Dani. Fan's should respect Robert and respect eachother.

Wow, this is so sad to read. Why on earth were they NOT prepared with security. Have they not seen the hype that has been building?

The mall tours were a stupid idea to begin with, but if you're going to run with a stupid idea, at least plan it well.

I feel so bad for the girls that got hurt, the people that traveled so far, but mostly for Rob. He is proably distraught that people got hurt, essentially, because of him.

I hope Summit are scrambling to get EVERY HT event, Rob, Kristen and the others maxed out to the hilt with security.

Scary stuff. People getting hurt.
This is the kind of insane behavior that will make Rob stop making public appearances. I really wouldn't blame him one bit.
Although it is kinda sad that it had to happen this way.

Okay that was nuts. Scary!

I WAS THERE!

it is all the mall and hot topic's fault!

i got there at 4am and waited. for NOTHING! there were about a couple thousand people there. it was NOT our fault.

while in line, being pushed up against a couple hundred people for about a couple of hours where i couldn't breath, i met a girl from hawaii! HAWAII! girls came all that way for NOTHING!

STUPID mall people! robert is not even in san francisco, hes in LA!

i am so disappointed, along with 2 thousand other people.

the police did NOT help. they made it worse. i had today off and wasted it for this! I AM SO UPSET! and so is everyone else. its not over yet.

Thank you Kaila...I am sure that there were fans like you in the crowd who did not act like a nut case. Welcome to our blog and I am really sorry that things didn't work out for you.

even if im sorry that i live so far away that ill probably never get a chance to meet/see rob, im so glad that i don't have to experience these kind of things.. damn.. i feel sorry for the girls who got hurt and i feel sorry for rob.. he seem like the type of guy that will feel that this is all his fault/blame himself and probably freak out, which could lead to, just like you said Pretty0k, that he stops doing public appearances.

For those fellow respectful Rob fans who traveled to see him, man, I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

As much as I want to see Rob in Dallas tomorrow, I just knew it would end up being the same situation.

I can tell you that when Stephenie Meyer came to our neighborhood Barnes & Noble, the turnout was so huge, they had to move it to a local high school auditorium to accomodate everyone.

What made Summit and Hot Topic even think that only 500 wristbands and minimal security was going to be enough? Did they not see how many people camped out for ComicCon. or did they just blow it off to them being SciFi nerds?

Twilight has a huge following The internet, MTV and so many other factors have really put Rob into the spotlight. Dani, thankyou for stating things so eloquently.

This was a poor publicity decision on both Summit Entertainment and Hot Topic's part. Rob deserves so much more respect than that. WE fans deserved more respect than that. If you are going to do a signing, do it in a huge venue like ComicCon. Summit is trying to build the hysteria. This will be their first major successful film and the way they are trying to assure themselves a hit is not only dangerous to their cast but the fans of Twilight as well.

Stay strong Rob Fans! He needs our support and our love in more positive way!

This is horrible!

The Mall security completely screwed up. Ever since they announced this event at Hot Topic we have heard stories about the staff there saying the phone has been ringing off the hook about this, and that they've never seen anything like this. How could they NOT expect 3,000 fans to show up (wasn't it obvious by the amount of calls they received?)

1. Perhaps the manager at HT did not inform Security of a proper estimate

2. Mall security ignored estimate

3. Concerned that they let over 500 people line up (shouldn't they have turned people away)

I feel bad for everyone there.
