Japan reviews Water for Elephants: "Robert Pattinson in the lead role is excellent"

We've already seen Water for Elephants multiple times and own the Bluray and DVDs at this point. However, the film is just coming out in Japan next week (Feb. 25). Makes me not feel so bad about Bel Ami. :) ~~That's a lie.~~

Since critics tend to give Rob a hard time, reading a positive review is worth our attention even if the film is long gone in our countries. The Japan Times starts out kind of WTF but keep going (excerpted):

What is it about Robert Pattinson that makes him slightly annoying? Despite his 18-carat movie-star status built on his vampire role in the "Twilight" series, despite the rumor that he's slated as the next Brad Pitt (er, really?) and has the lanky, boyish charm to back it up, Pattinson remains several notches below Total Heartthrob status.

My guess is that this brooding lad fairly oozes with first-world angst (relationship problems, identity problems, anger at the high price of organic chicken, etc.), which, at this point in history, kind of tests your patience. I mean, what's he got to complain about?

So "Water for Elephants comes as a surprise, because Pattinson in the lead role is, to put it bluntly, excellent. Director Francis Lawrence ("I am Legend") deploys Pattinson's particular privileged-but-unhappy aura to full advantage, and the movie reaps heaps of benefits from his skittishness, his subtle note of unreliability and that calculated lopsided grin. Plus, he takes a punch in the face, which is more than a little gratifying to witness. Win-win, all round.

Yeah. Critics sometimes can't help themselves with the little digs but the "excellent" remark made me beam and go "HA! You'll eat your words soon enough, bitter critics!" It might take baby steps for some but WFE was the step for this snarky reviewer.

I got an official email from "Twilgihter's SQUARE"; official Twilight Saga homepage hosted by Kadokawa Entertainment. Kagokawa is Japanese rep for Summit.

We don't know the date yet. They will announce the date by Sept. 30th.

The first 200 people who bought Twilight DVD (release on Sept. 18) at Shibuya TSUTAYA will receive an official "application" for meeting Rob. The luckiest pair among 200 applicants will get to meet Rob in person for taking photo together. And a free pass to Press Conference! Application deadline is Oct. 12th.

I feel so sorry for the Twilight fans in Japan. It nearly killed me having to wait a couple of days longer than the people in the US to see "Eclipse" so having to wait nearly 5 months after everyone else is SO unfair.
But the time is nearly here for now as "Eclipse" Premieres on Nov 6th and to promote it Yahoo have released a video of clips from the movie including part of the famous tent scene.
(The title on the vid says it's for the DVD but it's not)

“Eclipse Enchantment Book” supplementary booklet.

The supplementary booklet includes an introduction to the story of the Twilight series episodes one to three, a map showing the relationship between the characters, interviews with Rob, Taylor, and Kristen, a feature on the American movie posters, production notes, etc. Also in the magazine is an introduction to “How to be” DVD that will be released on November 3. The following is an excerpt of the overseas, non-Eclipse related portion of the interview.

Q: Apart from the Twilight series you choose art house style films, why is that?
Rob: Twilight is also a small independent film by an independent director, it’s a dark and tragic drama. I still can’t get used to the fact that it has suddenly become a hit. So I’m making film after film without a break, not thinking about the fact that I have become famous. I decided that I didn’t want to appear in Hollywood blockbusters, so I choose small features as I did before.

Q: In the next episode, Breaking Dawn, Edward becomes a father?
Rob: Actually in “Water For Elephants ” I’m the father of five children! I can’t imagine Edward and Bella having children, I know Kristen will play it well so I will take my lead from her.

Q: Who is your ideal woman?
Well… first they have to love dogs. (Kate: I LOVE DOGS!!!!) Also not shouting in a loud voice, (Kate: I love dogs :-}) they’re the only two conditions, after that it’s just a matter of whether we get on well.

In the interview Rob talks about In-N-Out cheeseburger. Obviously he loves it.
When he stays in LA, he wakes up in the morning thinking "I want to have 5 cheeseburgers!"

The various fashion magazines are reporting Dior's statement about Rob being the new face of Dior Homme. We'll update this post as more new info comes in.

Robert Pattinson has officially been announced as the face of Dior Homme.

After months of speculation about the star's rumoured partnership with the brand, the House of Dior has released an official statement today confirming the campaign.
They said: 'The House of Dior is delighted to announce that actor Robert Pattinson is to be the new face of Dior Homme fragrance.'

Cue screams of delight from the entire Marie Claire office...
The statement then goes on to praise Robert's successful career in a number of high-profile movies, saying: 'Since his first notable role in 2005 in the fourth Harry Potter sequel, film star Robert Pattinson has more recently come to be known through his role in the runaway box office success, the Twilight saga.

'He has since proven the scope of his acting talents by choosing films as varied as Remember Me by Allen Coulter, Water for Elephants by Francis Lawrence, in which he starred alongside Reese Witherspoon, or with his role as Bel-Ami, the famous Maupassant character.
'In the ultimate tribute to his talent, David Cronenberg chose him to star in his latest picture, Cosmopolis, adapted from the novel by Don de Lillo. A striking role as a golden boy which premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

'He has recently completed filming David Michod¹s The Rover in Australia with Guy Pearce and will soon be on set for David Cronenberg¹s next picture, Maps to the Stars. Following on he will star in Hold on to Me, directed by James Marsh and co-starring Carey Mulligan.'

Rumours in Hollywood have claimed that the campaign for Rob's ad was 'steamy' and featured the actor surrounded by barely-clothed women in a bed. Here's hoping that's to come…

Dior Homme adds: 'Today we are excited to announce that he will join the privileged circle of Dior faces. Photographed by American artist Nan Goldin and filmed by French director Romain Gavras, this new Dior Homme communication campaign is currently broadcast exclusively in Europe (except UK) and Asia (except China and Japan).'

BUT don't panic!
Rob has the BEST fans for sharing so I have NO doubt we'll see this one way or another!!
